South Tower St. Vitus accessible again
Prague Castle, the Cathedral of Sts. Vitus Cathedral in Prague (Available by tram number 22, stop Prague Castle)
South Tower St. Vitus is again available. The tower is the highest church tower and its height is nearly 100 meters.
Some works refer to 96.6 m, another 97 meters.
The construction of the tower started by Peter Parler in 1396 and after his death until 1406 then in construction continued by his sons.
When the great fire of Prague Castle was damaged in 1541, the bells, which are ripped from prohořelých beams, originally designed to undermine her. Then made a correction to the current state built the tower architect Boniface Wohlmut. On the tower is a clock from 1552, rebuilt in 1688 by clockmaker Peter Naumann, the biggest bell in Bohemia, called Sigmund, the work of Tomas Jaros in Brno in 1549, decorated with plastic portraits of Ferdinand I and Anna the Jagiellonian.
